Painting and Decorating

Being a painter and decorator is not just about slapping paint onto walls. As a professional you would be responsible for meeting customers and discussing their needs with them, preparing surfaces, decorating them using a range of products and protecting them to keep them looking good. You may work on skirting and woodwork, cornices and ceiling roses or external fascia boards, windows or doors. You should have an eye for detail and a creative flair, being able to measure and decorate accurately, choose the right products for the job and advise customers on what might be best. You could work as a self-employed or contracted decorator, decorating people’s homes; or perhaps on large scale projects such as shopping centres, offices or leisure complexes. You might even use your expert knowledge to decorate grand or historic buildings such as churches, museums or manor houses. Our workshops are built to replicate real life conditions, giving you experience in all elements of painting and decorating. You will learn from experienced tutors who have spent time in the industry, and get the opportunity to work on real projects outside of college too.
