Level 4 Higher Apprenticeship in Agriculture
About this course

The Level 4 apprenticeship is designed to meet the needs of those looking to progress into a more senior role within the farming industry.

This level is ideal if you are working with livestock or in crop production, ideally in a supervisory role. Maybe you are returning to the family farm after completing a full-time Level 3 qualification or progressing from the Advanced Apprenticeship? Maybe you are looking to take the next step into management - or perhaps start your own business. The course places an emphasis on practical business skills together with management theory and understanding.


What will I learn?

During thisnapprenticeship you will cover the following areas:

• Plan, manage and evaluate breeding programmes
• Plan and manage the health and welfare of livestock

Learners are also required to complete further optional units that can include:

• Manage own professional development in an organisation
• Produce a plan for your business

Entry requirements

Level 3 qualification in Agriculture or other Landbased related subjects could be an advantage.

Minimum GCSE grade C/4 in English and Maths.

You need to be 18 years old or over to take this qualification.

Study, assessment and qualifications

Method of Delivery:

The Competence and Knowledge Elements will be assessed in the workplace using evidence to build a portfolio.The Project Management and some Elements of the Knowledge are delivered in College.

Functional Skills will generally be delivered at our Wiltshire College Lackham campus. GCSE Grades C/4+ may mean that the Functional Skills elements may not be required.

A mixture of on and off the job training provides a variety of learning opportunities across the whole programme.

On completion of the Apprenticeship the apprentice must be able to undertake the full range of duties, in the range of circumstances appropriate to the job, confidently and competently to the standard set by the industry.

The College’s Adult funded courses and apprenticeships prior to 1st May 2017 and apprenticeships with non-levy paying employers post 1st May 2017, are funded by the Education and Skills Funding Agency and part financed by the European Union through the European Social Fund (ESF). ESF supports activities to extend employment opportunities and develop a skilled workforce.
