About this course

Taught by a fully licenced Lawn Tennis Association coach, this course is aimed at individuals of all ages whose goal is to improve their fitness whilst meeting new friends and learning the diverse skills of the game of tennis. The course includes technical instruction on the different shots of the game, tactics and scoring. The emphasis will be on having fun. Upon completion, participants will receive a certificate and tutor feedback and recommendations for how to progress further.

What will I learn?

On completion you should be able to:

  • Carry out the fundamental shots of tennis: forehand, backhand, serve, volley
  • Understand the rules and scoring methods of the game
  • Have an overview of tactics required for doubles and singles

The following topics will be covered in this course:

  • Introduction to, and progression of groundstrokes – forehand and backhand
  • Serving – the basic techniques and methods
  • Volleying – basic technique and how and when to use

There are no entry requirements associated with this course.

Study, assessment and qualifications

Assessment is informal, based on your personal targets and the learning outcomes and will be undertaken regularly with you by the course tutor.


Additional costs and information

You should bring with you:

  • Suitable loose fitting sports clothing and trainers
  • Water
  • A tennis racquet (not essential).
