Level 1 Painting and Decorating
About this course
This course serves as an introduction to basic decorating techniques and health and safety within the construction industry. It involves:
  • carrying out safe working practices
  • estimating quantities
  • communications
  • construction technology
  • safe use of access equipment
  • preparation of surfaces
  • application of paints by brush and roller
  • applying foundation and plain wallpapers and basic specialist decorative techniques.
What will I learn?

  •     Health and Safety and Welfare in Construction and Associated Industries
  •     Knowledge of Technical Information, Quantities and Communication with others.
  •     Knowledge of Construction Technology
  •     Erecting and Dismantling Access Equipment and Working Platforms
  •     Preparing Common Surface types for Decoration
  •     Applying Basic Paint Systems by Brush and Roller
  •     Applying Foundation and Plain Papers
  •     Producing Standard Decorative Finishes
Entry requirements

4 GCSEs at Grade 2/E or above, or equivalent including Maths and English, a good reference and a satisfactory interview.

You will also be required to undertake a skills assessment

What could I do next?
You could progress onto the Level 2 in Painting and Decorating.

Also, there are many opportunities within the decorating sector either being employed by a contractor or being self-employed within the residential private sector.

If you commence employment you could then progress to completing an N.V.Q at Level 2 and 3 through an Apprenticeship.
