Level 2 Land Based Engineering
About this course
This course will give you the broad understanding required for working within the agricultural machinery sector. You will work on a variety of machines such as tractors, combines and harvesters, as well as develop your practical skills and confidence.
 
You will learn a range of skills and knowledge to enter the Land Based Engineering industry, or the mechanised side of agriculture, perhaps wishing to progress onto a Level 3 Farm Mechanisation or a Level 3 Land Based Engineering course in the future.
What will I learn?

You will develop some of the key skills and understanding of agricultural vehicle systems. Indicative learning will include engine technology, transmissions, calculations, land based machinery operations and workshop practice.

You will acquire the basic skills needed to progress onto the Level 3 Land Based Engineering diploma or an apprenticeship.

This qualification could also be used as a stepping stone into employment and provide a wide range of skills that can be applied in the agricultural engineering or the automotive industry if desired.

 

Entry requirements
  • 4 GCSEs at grade D or 3/4, including Maths, English and Science or equivalent (or successful completion of a relevant subject at Level 1)
  • An aptitude test
  • A good reference
  • A satisfactory interview
Study, assessment and qualifications
Whilst most assessments are carried out during practical sessions, some assignment work will need to be completed in your own time.
 
Assessment of the course is through coursework, in the form of written assignments and workbooks. You will also be assessed during practical sessions.
 
The final qualification will be a City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma in Land Based Engineering.
Additional costs and information
You will need to supply your own protective boots, overalls and writing equipment. In addition, there will be a contribution required towards some visits to related shows or exhibitions.
What could I do next?
Successful completion of this course offers the opportunity to progress onto a Level 3 90-Credit or Extended Diploma in either Farm Mechanisation or Land Based Engineering..
 
This qualification is the first step in the progression to a successful career in agricultural engineering and the mechanisation side of the agricultural and related industries.
