About this course

This Level 2 Technical Certificate in Barbering aims to provide you with a range of essential and practical skills and knowledge, which will equip you to seek employment or further training within the barbering industry. The skills include carrying out services such as; shampooing, conditioning, cutting men’s hair, cutting men’s facial hair, drying and finishing men’s hair and creating basic outlines in the hair.

Following successful completion of this qualification you will be qualified to work in a number of employment destinations such as: barber shops, hairdressing salons, hotels or cruise ships.

This qualification is suitable for anyone over the age of 16 years. You don’t need any previous knowledge or experience to start this qualification.

What will I learn?

This qualification covers all the core skills you will need to progress to further learning and training, or to enter the world of work within the barbering industry. You will study the following mandatory content:

 

• Principles of hairdressing and barbering services

• Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp

• Cut hair using basic barbering techniques

• Cut facial hair to shape using basic techniques

• Dry and finish men’s hair

• Create basic outlines and detailing in hair

 

We will work with local employers who will contribute to the knowledge and delivery of training.

 

This will include structured work-experience or work-placements within their business and classes, or lectures given by industry experts.

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs at grade D (3) or above (or equivalent), including English and Maths.

Successful completion of relevant subject at Level 1.

Study, assessment and qualifications

You will be assessed in the 'Aspire Academy of Hair and Beauty' salon’s.

To gain this qualification, candidates must successfully achieve the following assessments:

One externally set, externally moderated practical assignment

One externally set, externally marked theory exam, sat under examination conditions. 

Evidence of employer engagement.

A minimum of 3-hours a week home study is required.

Additional costs and information
You will need a uniform and a kit for this course; order forms will be sent out with the induction pack. In cases of financial hardship funds may be available to help with the cost of this.
What could I do next?

You could progress onto a Level 3 Technical Diploma in Barbering or a Level 2 Technical Certificate in Hairdressing.

Alternatively you can enter the industry as a junior barber.
