Level 2 Technical Certificate in Hairdressing
About this course
During the course you will learn a variety of techniques in all aspects of hairdressing. You will work with the general public implementing customer service procedures and manage the reception area; learning safe methods of storing client information manually and on the computer.
Competition work and charity events offer a valuable experience as part of the course.
Work experience is a mandatory requirement which can be in a placement of your choice. 
What will I learn?
These are the following units for Level 2 (subject to change):
  • Principles and practices of hairdressing and barbering services
  • Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp
  • Cut hair using basic techniques
  • Style, set and dress hair
  • Colour and lighten hair
Entry requirements
16-19 year olds: Completion of Level 1 Hair and Beauty with a suitable reference and trade test OR 4 GCSEs at grade D (3) or above to include Maths and English.
19+ applicants will be considered for direct entry. 
Subject to a successful interview and good reference.
Study, assessment and qualifications

You will be assessed in the 'Aspire' college hair salon.

To gain this qualification, candidates must successfully achieve the following assessments:

One externally set, externally moderated assignment

One externally set, externally marked exam, sat under examination conditions


A minimum of 3-hours a week home study is required.

Final Qualification: Level 2 Technical Certificate in Hairdressing

Additional costs and information

You will need a uniform and a kit for this course which you can find on our online shop. In cases of financial hardship funds may be available to help with the cost of this.
