About this course

The Culinary Skills qualifications can help you become a chef or progress to a more senior chef's role. You'll gain a high standard of cookery skills and have the option to learn other workplace essentials like health and safety in a kitchen.

The Culinary Skills qualifications are for anyone who works or wants to work as a chef in the catering and hospitality sector. It is ideal for learners coming straight from school who wish to seek a career in this industry. It is also ideal for those chefs in industry who would like to continue or refresh their knowledge by undertaking topics within the qualification

What will I learn?

Students will complete the following units:

Entry requirements
4 GCSEs at grade E (2) or equivalent, to include English and maths
A good reference
A satisfactory interview
Study, assessment and qualifications

Each unit is assessed by a separate assignment.

The assignments cover the practical activities for all outcomes and will also sample underpinning knowledge to verify coverage of the unit.

Final qualification: Level 1 Certificate in Introduction to Culinary Skills (QCF)

Additional costs and information
You will need a uniform and a kit which includes books and safety shoes for this course; order forms will be sent out with the induction pack.
In cases of financial hardship funds may be available to help with the cost of this.
Additional expenses may be incurred through competition work and educational activities.
You will be able to take home some food items at a small charge. 
What could I do next?
On completion of this qualification students can progress onto the Level 2 Technical Certificate in Professional Cookery or a Level 2 apprenticeship in Professional Cookery or Food and Beverage Services.
