About this course

Delivered at Wiltshire College and University Centre's Chippenham campus, the Foundation Degree (FdSc) in Computing will equip you with the knowledge, understanding and skills required for success in current and future employment or for progression to an undergraduate Honours degree. 

The College setting environment and the small size cohort allow teachers to cater for the individual requirements of each student and provide extra support if needed.

The College has strong links with companies that will provide you with a variety range of work placement opportunities.

The programme contains a work based learning component where you will spend time in a workplace or undergo workplace simulations and you will study a selection of modules.

What will I learn?

After completing these two years, you will gain a Foundation Degree (FdSc) in Computing and you may choose to continue onto a third year to give you the opportunity to achieve a full Honours degree which is planned for delivery from September 2020.

Please note:
You will be required to study one of the two Optional modules dependent upon student numbers.

Entry requirements

Applicants should normally have:

• A minimum of two years' relevant work experience and a current role in an appropriate workplace setting along with a line manager's letter of support and recommendation.

• A minimum of one pass at A Level (grade C minimum) or 6-unit Vocational A Level plus a minimum of three passes at GCSE (grades A-C) including Mathematics and English Language.

• A National Certificate, Diploma, other equivalent qualification such as GNVQ / NVQ or other Level 3 qualification.

On successful completion of this course, you will achieve a Foundation Degree (FdSc) in Computing, accredited by Oxford Brookes University.

Additional costs and information

The cost of this programme is £7,350 per year (£9,000 per year for international students).

Students may be required to attend an interview and are welcome to apply for this programme through UCAS.

What could I do next?

On successful completion of the Foundation Degree, students may progress onto a top year BSc (Hons) Software Development for Business that is planned for delivery at the College from September 2020.

Many of the College's current Applied Computing students have chosen to progress onto the BSc (Hons) top up degree in Applied Computing at Wiltshire College in order to further develop their skills within the industry.

Students who have also completed their studies in Applied Computing have commonly progressed into careers as I.T. Professionals, Web Designers, Support Technicians and Software Developers. 

Some have gone on to specialise in ICT related studies at a postgraduate level at other universities such as the University of the West of England and Stafford University.
