The full Functional skills qualifications for maths include: A formal assessment for Entry level maths, which is assessed internally, and a formal assessment for the Level 1 and Level 2 maths, which is externally assessed. All levels have set and marked tests, which consist of scenario-based questions and take place under exam conditions at any time in the year.
Resources permitted in the examination room are: a pen with black ink, calculator, HB pencil, eraser and ruler graduated in centimetres and millimetres.
You will be expected to attend the sessions regularly and be encouraged to develop your maths skills through group activities, paired activities and individual working.
There is a range of e-learning facilities to support your development and there will be an expectation for you to complete work outside the classroom (‘homework’).
Class assessments take place on a regular basis to develop your skills and fully prepare you for the formal assessments needed to gain a qualification. All formal assessments take place during class time and are available throughout the period of study.
You will be expected to complete weekly assignments using the e-learning facilities and maintain regular contact with your tutor who will be monitoring your progress throughout the programme of study.
There will also be a requirement to attend group tutorials, exam practice and exams sittings at one of our designated campuses during your period of study (minimum of 10 hours). Dates for these will be agreed with you during your study.
