About this course

IOSH Working Safely covers the essentials of health and safety in the workplace. It is aimed at all workers in all types of organisation. Upon successful completion of the course and assessment, delegates are awarded a Working Safely certificate from the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH), the world’s largest health and safety membership organisation. 

What will I learn?

The course is divided into four modules:

  1. Introducing working safely
  2. Defining hazard and risk
  3. Identifying common hazards
  4. Improving safety performance                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 Upon completion of the course, learners will be able to:
  • Identify why it is important to work safely
  • Identify everyone’s responsibilities in relation to health, safety and well-being in the workplace
  • Define key terms in health and safety
  • Identify workplace hazards and risks, their impact and how to control them
  • Identify ways in which health, safety and wellbeing are managed and improved within the workplace.
Entry requirements

Anyone – and everyone – in a working role who wants to learn the basics of safety and health

Study, assessment and qualifications

You will complete a multiple-choice examination and hazard spotting exercise are completed at the end of the course.

Successful delegates will receive an IOSH Certificate. Although there is no expiry date on the certificate, IOSH recommend that delegates refresh their course every 3 years to keep their knowledge up to date.

IOSH Working Safely is recognised by the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) when applying for a CSCS card to work on a UK construction site. Applicants must also pass the CSCS health, safety and environment test.

The College’s Adult funded courses and apprenticeships prior to 1st May 2017 and apprenticeships with non-levy paying employers post 1st May 2017, are funded by the Education and Skills Funding Agency and part financed by the European Union through the European Social Fund (ESF). ESF supports activities to extend employment opportunities and develop a skilled workforce.
