Delivered at Wiltshire College & University Centre's Chippenham campus, you will have the opportunity to work across a range of creative and practical projects designed with the needs of the industry in mind.  You will also be encouraged to develop skills in the sought-after disciplines of multi-camera production and visual effects.

You will be offered the chance to develop specialist skills such as animation, motion graphics and 3D modelling or TV studio production, lighting and sound.  Real life projects developed in discussion with industry specialists will encourage you to engage with professional working practices so that you are poised to take the next step in your creative career.

The Higher National Diploma in Creative Media Production (TV and Visual Effects) offers the chance to learn sought after skills in the competitive creative industries.

The TV production pathway is based in our award-winning TV studio where learners will produce everything from traditional TV content to multi camera YouTube streams.

Visual effects specialists will gain the skills to fill a gap in the media marketplace embracing the exciting world of digital motion graphics and animation.

The typical duration for this full time programme is 2 years.

Entry requirements:

It is expected that you will have achieved 48 UCAS Tariff Points from relevant level 3 qualification before commencing this course.  You may be invited to an interview where appropriate.


English and Mathematics: Ideally you will have GCSE grades C (4) or above in both English and Mathematics as well as two other subjects. However, there are options of Higher Education students to complete these qualifications while studying on Higher Education courses at Wiltshire College.

English Language for non native speakers:

  • Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) level B2
  • PTE 51
  • IELTS 5.5: Reading and Writing must be at 5.5 or equivalent


This qualification is set at level 4 (HNC) or level 5 (HND).

Study, assessment and qualifications

Although the study element of this course is taught at Wiltshire College, you will be able to access learning and support facilities on the college’s internal online platform (eStudy) and you will benefit from the resources designed by Pearson that can be found on the HNGlobal website.

A college Tutor will be assigned to support your portfolio triangulating the elements studied at college, embedding and supporting End Point Assessment (EPA) requirements and supporting the identification of additional evidence within the workplace.

You will have assessments to complete throughout the course.  These assessments are coursework based and you will create a portfolio of evidence.  You will submit your work using an online platform that will check for plagiarism.

On successful completion of this course, you will achieve either an HNC or an HND in Creative Media Production (TV & Visual Effects), accredited by Pearson.

Students may be required to attend an interview and are welcome to apply for this programme via UCAS.

The cost of the course will be £5,300 per year (£11,500 per year for international students).
