About this course
This course is for complete beginners - this is a one week, two hour session that is designed as an introduction to the other Computing for The Terrified courses.
What will I learn?

The aim of the course is to give the learners the basic skills to enable them to start to use their computer or laptop and to enable them to participate in further CFTT courses.

On completion you should be able to:

  • Safely switch PC on and off
  • Log on and off
  • Use mouse and keyboard
  • Describe some basic computing terms

The following topics will be covered during the course:

  • Learning some basic computing terms
  • Switching on, logging in
  • Using the mouse to draw a simple picture in Paint
  • Using Word to type a short piece of text
  • Logging off, shutting down


Entry requirements
There are no formal entry requirements.
Study, assessment and qualifications

Assessment is informal, based on your personal targets and the learning outcomes and will be undertaken with you by the course tutor. There are no final qualifications associated with this course.

Additional costs and information

You should bring with you a notebook and pen, or other method of taking notes. There will be a presentation that will also be given as a hand out and a workbook to use.  Please note that the course is a combination of tutor taught and individual learning using the workbook with tutor support.
