About this course

Frank Smith is a BAFTA Nominated Director with 35 years of experience working at the very top of the TV Industry. Throughout his career he has directed award winning and widely popular Television programmes, such as ‘The Bill’, ‘London’s Burning’, ‘Byker Grove’ and ‘Ballykissangel’ to name but a few…

Frank lives locally in Bradford on Avon and we at Wiltshire College are proud to announce he is enthusiastic to share his extensive knowledge and experience with anyone wishing to learn how to direct their own films.

What will I learn?

On completion, you should be able to:

  • Understand different shot types and their uses
  • The role of a Director, what does she/he do and how?
  • Fully prepare the pre-production required for a shoot
  • Adapt a script for screen
  • Prepare a scene and cast for shooting
  • Direct your cast to produce the performance the scene requires
  • Shoot and Edit your own scene to a professional quality

Study, assessment and qualifications
Assessment is informal, based on your personal targets and the learning outcomes and will be undertaken regularly with you by the course tutor.
