About this course

This 2 day course is suitable for the ‘occasional user’ i.e those intending to use chainsaws for business, domestic or leisure activities. Candidates will learn the skills necessary to fell trees up to 200 mm [8”] in diameter in a safe and effective manner.


Please note: this course it is not suited for those who undertake forestry or arboriculture activities or those working on Forest Enterprises land.

What will I learn?

During this course you will learn how to carry out the following techniques:

  • Preparation
  • Felling
  • De-limbing
  • Take down of hung-up trees

The course will involve a combination of theory and practical work and will culminate with an assessment at the end of the second day.  The first assessment is included in this price.  The purpose of the assessment is to prove occupational competence; further charges apply if re-assessment is required.

Entry requirements
Please DO NOT book this course unless you have previously achieved LANTRA Chainsaw Maintenance & Crosscutting or NPTC Level 2 Award in Chainsaw Maintenance and Crosscutting Maintain & Operate the Chainsaw (CS30).
Study, assessment and qualifications

Upon successful completion, you will receive a nationally recognised Certificate of Training and Skills Identity Card, issued by LANTRA Awards.

This course enables new and existing operators to conform to the requirements of the “Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regs 1998”, “Approved Code of Practice” and “Guidance Notes GS48”

You will need your own transport as the course takes place at Wiltshire College for half of the first day and is then at an alternative site for the rest of the course duration.
