About this course

If you've never played the guitar before or have an instrument but want to be able to do more with it, this beginners course will certainly set you on your way.

You will learn the basics of guitar playing, how to tune the instrument, basic chords and chord progressions and some simple scales. Course material will be based on the songs of the Beatles and the Eagles.

So, if you want to get strumming and entertain your friends, come and join our welcoming group.

What will I learn?

The aim of the course is to introduce you to the basic techniques of guitar playing.

On completion, you should be able to:

  • play basic guitar for fun, singalongs etc.
  • understand basic music theory
  • get an assessment of your ability and a plan for improvement
  • learn basic songwriting skills

The following topics will be covered during the course:

  • Getting in tune
  • Basic chords
  • How to follow chord progressions
  • Simple scales

Study, assessment and qualifications

Assessment is informal, based on your personal targets and the learning outcomes, and will be undertaken regularly with you by the course tutor. There are no final qualifications associated with this course.
