About this course

This 2 day course is delivered to Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) Level 5 specifications. During the course you will gain an understanding of the importance of effective marketing using a range of media to promote products or services in your own organisation.

What will I learn?

Following the first session, you will carry out a research project of marketing activities in your workplace in preparation for the assignment.

The second session will give you the opportunity to present your findings to your fellow students and tutor and discuss your project with the tutor.

Completion of the course will enable you to:

  • Understand the need for marketing and marketing objectives
  • Review the market within which your organisation operates
  • Consider the size of the market, your organisations market share and its competitor profile
  • Use the tools of marketing, e.g. market research, public relations and the marketing mix
  • Use segmentation to identify and target customers effectively
  • Introduce new products and services using market testing and risk awareness principles
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of a marketing campaign
  • Identify recommendations to improve the effectiveness of a marketing campaign
Entry requirements
There are no formal entry requirements for this course.
Study, assessment and qualifications

Two options are available for certification:

1. Non-accredited with a Wiltshire College certificate of attendance (£300)

2. ILM accredited, where completion of 1 assignment will result in an ILM Level 5 Unit Certificate in Understanding the Importance of Marketing for an Organisation (£375)*

Tutorial support is available throughout the course either in person, by phone or email if required.

*This Unit has a credit value of 4. A minimum of 6 credits is required for the full Award and 13 credits for the full Certificate. Programme Leader, Roger Hill, will be happy to discuss the benefits of each option with you.

Additional costs and information

The cost of the course is £300 plus an additional £75 for ILM accreditation if required. All costs include course materials, registration with ILM (where applicable), lunch and refreshments. VAT is not applicable.

The ILM qualification comes with a minimum of 1 year’s free ILM Studying Membership, giving access to resources and tools including: Management Intelligence; Career Development and the Learning Zone.
