This course ensures that those with responsibility for Health and Safety in the workplace have the skills and knowledge required to undertake their role and provides the skills to effectively manage risks within the workplace.

  • Promoting a positive Health and Safety culture
  • Risk assessment, including monitoring, review and audit
  • Principles of control
  • Movement of people and vehicles
  • Manual and mechanical handling
  • Construction activities and work equipment
  • Fire, chemical, biological, physical and psychological health
  • Incident investigation, recording and reporting
Entry requirements
You should be working in a role where you are responsible for elements of Health and Safety in the workplace.
Study, assessment and qualifications

Assessment consists of 2 written exams and 1 practical assessment:

  • Management of Safety and Health
  • Controlling Workplace Hazards
  • Inspection, Report and Recommendations for action

An understanding of basic maths and an ability to write short reports is a pre-requisite of this course. This mainly practical course is directly related to the work experience of candidates, where possible.

Additional costs and information

This course is delivered as a 3 week block course at Wiltshire College Salisbury and as a day release course at Wiltshire College Lackham.
