About this course

This course is suitable for those felling trees on a professional basis, typically within forestry, amenity or utility aboricultural areas.

What will I learn?

  • Removing Branches Using a Chainsaw
  • Processing Hung-up Trees
Entry requirements
You must previously have achieved NPTC Level 2 Award in Chainsaw Maintenance and Cross Cutting and Maintenance (CS30).
Study, assessment and qualifications

Assessment will be by observation of your practical skills and question and answer sessions, over 2-4 hours, to determine your underpinning knowledge and understanding of the module. It will take place within a week of the course, subject to assessor availability.

The first assessment is included in this price.  The purpose of the NPTC assessment is to prove occupational competence; further charges apply if re-assessment is required.

Additional costs and information

This is a mainly practical course which takes place at Longleat Forest, Warminster. You will need your own transport as the course takes place at Wiltshire College for half of the first day and is then at an alternative site for the rest of the course duration.

It is desired that attendees bring the following items of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to the training and assessment:

  • Chainsaw protection trousers
  • Chainsaw protection boots
  • Chainsaw protection gloves
  • Chainsaw safety helmet (in date)

These must comply with current BS EN Standards.

NB: The assessment will take place after the training has been completed; this will be on a separate day. You will be sent the date in your joining instructions, 7 - 10 days before the courses start date.
