About this course

This course is suitable for those with a requirement to achieve this predominantly Health & Safety based qualification, in order to progress on to the NPTC Level 3 Award in Aerial Cutting of Trees Using Freefall Techniques.

What will I learn?

The following topics will be covered:


  • Completing Risk Assessments of Tree Climbing Operations
  • Tree species identification
  • PPE and other equipment, including Rope and Harness and Prusik Systems
  • Safe Methods Ascending/Descending Trees; Branch Walking; Moving Around Tree Crowns
Entry requirements
This is a physically demanding course, therefore, you must have suitable levels of fitness and stamina.
Study, assessment and qualifications
The NPTC Assessment will take place a short time after the course, typically 7-10 days later, and is a measure of competence of tree climbing and rescue skills.
Additional costs and information

It is desired that attendees bring the following items of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to the training and assessment:

  • Chainsaw protection trousers
  • Chainsaw protection boots
  • Chainsaw protection gloves
  • Chainsaw safety helmet (in date)

These must comply with current BS EN Standards.
