About this course

This course is designed for those who use Brush Cutters and Strimmers who require a certificate of competence. The aim of this course is to ensure that operators are safe, competent and understand the legislative requirements when using Brush Cutters and Strimmers in the workplace.

At the end of this course you will be able to:

  • Comply with safety legislation
  • Identify faults and defects
  • Select and use cutting heads
  • Plan systematic work operations

What will I learn?

You will learn about the hazards arising from the use of brushcutters, and the precautions that should be observed, such as:

  • Current legislation, operator responsibilities and best practice
  • Safety and risk assessment
  • PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)
  • Components and maintenance
  • Fuelling and starting
  • Testing the safety features
  • Checking the balance of the brushcutter / trimmer
  • Safe operation

Course content is dependent upon machine type.

Entry requirements
Please DO NOT book the 1-day refresher course unless you are able to confirm your prior experience of using the equipment by completion of an NPORS profiling form, supplied on the course.
Study, assessment and qualifications
This course is assessed by the trainer as an integrated assessment.

Course durations:

  • 2-days Novice users £325
  • 1-day Experienced users £175

All equipment and PPE will be provided for the training at Lackham. For training on company site, you will need to use your own equipment and PPE.
