About this course

This qualification is aimed at those currently working in, or looking to work in, children and young people’s settings covering the age range 0-19 years. Learners will experience a broad understanding of the Children and Young People’s Workforce sector and an introduction to the practical skills and knowledge required.

Typical job roles in this area would include: Care Worker, Childminder, Nursery Nurse, Youth and Community Worker.

What will I learn?

This course is made of individual units, each with an assigned credit value. Some units are mandatory and some are optional. In order to achieve the full award, candidates have to achieve 35 credits.

  • Equality and inclusion
  • Child and young person development
  • Contributing to the support of child and young person development
  • Safeguarding
  • Health & Safety
  • Supporting positive behaviour
  • Contribute to the support of positive environments
  • Understand partnership working in services for children and young people
  • Maintain and support relationships with children and young people
  • Paediatric emergency first aid
  • Managing paediatric illness and injury

 

The remaining credits are made up from optional units which include:

  • Supporting children with special needs
  • Supporting language and literacy
  • Supporting creative development
  • Understanding children and young people who are vulnerable and experiencing poverty

Our assessor will work with the learner to choose the most appropriate units.

Entry requirements
There are no formal entry requirements. 
Study, assessment and qualifications

Each learner is assigned an assessor who will provide support and guidance throughout the course. Learners are assessed through a combination of assignments and workplace evidence. For example: observation, professional discussion and witness testimony.

A programme of five one-day workshops covers key subject areas. These are held regularly and learners can choose from a selection of dates and locations.

Successful candidates will achieve the City & Guilds Course Level 2 Certificate for the Children and Young Person's Workforce upon completion.
