About this course

This course is suitable for those aged 16+ who have an interest in operating in a caring role for older people. It has been designed to guide and assess the knowledge and skills of candidates working in a wide range of Health and Social Care settings and roles, however this Award can also be achieved if you do not currently work in the health and social care sector.

Examples of roles that would benefit from this course would be:

  • Care Assistants
  • Healthcare Assistants
  • Support Workers
  • Key Workers
  • Personal Assistants
  • Team Leaders
  • First Line Supervisors

This course is also ideal for privately employed or family member carers working in the following settings:

  • Residential
  • Community and primary care or acute health environments

What will I learn?

During this courses you will cover the following mandatory units:

  • Dementia awareness
  • The person centered approach to the care and support of individuals with dementia
  • Understanding the factors that can influence communication and interaction with individuals who have dementia
  • Understand equality diversity and inclusion in dementia care
Entry requirements
There are no formal entry requirements fir this course.
Study, assessment and qualifications

Learners will be assessed online, through Quals Direct E-learning Portfolio with an initial assessment, interview and registration at Wiltshire college, Lackham and one Tutorial after 3 months. Support by the assessor will provided on line.

How long will it take?

8 months maximum to complete 4 core units, this may be completed quicker by some learners.

Upon successful completion, learners will achieve the Level 2 Award in Awareness of Dementia (3565 - 21) (City & Guilds)
