About this course

This 2-3 year qualification is aimed at managers and assistant or deputy managers who have not yet achieved a recognised vocational qualification at this level, who currently work in the Health and Social Care or Children and Young People’s services.

It will provide you with the opportunity to build both your managerial and care skills, allowing you to help more people. It also fulfils the regulatory requirement for those looking to become managers of children's homes or adult residential homes.

What will I learn?

During this course, you will cover areas such as:

  • assessment of individual needs
  • planning and review of care programmes
  • procurement and tendering
  • risk management
  • effective governance
  • domiciliary care management

You will need at least 80 credits to achieve the level 5 award; each unit has an assigned credit value. It offers pathways for those working with 0 -19 yrs and also those working in adult services.

There are 5 shared core and mandatory units (20 credits)

Pathways:

0-19: Children and young people’s pathway:

  • Children & Young people’s residential management (44 credits)
  • Children & young people’s management (38 credits)
  • Children & Young people’s advanced practice ( 26 credits)

19+: Adult Pathway:

  • Adult’s residential management (32 credits)
  • Adult’s Management (33 credits)
  • Adult’s advanced practice (21credits)

Depending on credit value optional units can be selected to top up to 80 credits for full award.Individual units can be offered for Continuous Professional Development.

Entry requirements

Study, assessment and qualifications

Delivery and assessment will take place in the workplace by qualified Assessors using direct observation as the main assessment method, however, learners will also be assessed regarding their knowledge of the unit subject and this will be met by assignment work.

This is a "roll-on, roll-off" qualification so, provided you fit the required work based criteria you can join at any time.
