About this course

This course is designed for learners who are Level 1 or Level 2 ESOL / EFL students and are looking to improve their Academic English skills. It helps to prepare learners for exams such as IELTS, FCE and CAE. It is an 11 week course and each lesson is 2 hours long. It is available on the Salisbury and Trowbridge sites.

What will I learn?

You will learn how to best prepare for an IELTS exam or other high-level EFL exam. Topics will include reading, writing, speaking and listening skills in an academic context. Academic vocabulary and writing conventions will also be covered, including essay writing and report writing.

Entry requirements

Students on this course need to have a good level of general English skills. In ESOL terms they will need to be completing Entry 3 level or above to join this course.

Study, assessment and qualifications

At the end of this course your tutor can advise you on which exam it will be best for you to take based on your individual needs. You can then take an IELTS, FCE or CAE exam an an external centre. Please note that the fees of this course do not include the exam costs of an IELTS exam or other exam. This course includes exam preparation, but not the cost of the exam itself.

If you wish to take an exam at the end of this course you will need to pat for this yourself in addition to the course fees.

What could I do next?

After completeing this course you could take another si milar course the following term in order to continue improving your Academic English skills. Alternatively you could join a Level 1 or Level 2 ESOL class if your level of general English is appropriate.
