About this course

The Chartered Management Institute is the only Charted Professional body in the UK. CMI Management qualification are highly prized by both public and private sector organisations and students can progress to “Chartered Manager” Status through further study.

This qualification is design for First Line Management and it provides an introduction to the skills, roles and responsibilities of management.  It will also develop your basic knowledge by focusing on the development of specific management skills.

What will I learn?

The CMI level 3 Certificate in First Line Management requires students to complete a combination of units to a minimum of 13 Credits. The units to be studied are:

  • Personal development as a first line manager
  • Improving Team performance
Entry requirements

CMI does not specify entry requirements for this qualification. Written communication forms an increasingly important part of the CMI qualification.  For the best chance of success, it is recommended that students should have a good standard of English before starting the course.

Study, assessment and qualifications

During weekly classes your tutor will introduce you to the skills and knowledge needed for each unit, using a variety of resources including lectures, handouts and e-learning via the college virtual learning environment.

Time in class will always include the completion of practice activities to consolidate knowledge and this will be reinforced by home study.

Home work will be set most weeks, and you will also need to allow time for additional reading.  Regular attendance in class is essential to maximise your chance of success.

Unit assignments will be issued to assessment your knowledge and understanding of the unit.  There is no grading for CMI qualification, and external verification of the students’ work only confirms that the required criteria for achievement have been met.  

Additional costs and information

The course fee includes all tuition and your registration and member fee.  Text books and not provided, however you will have access to the college library which has a good range of text to support your learning. In addition a range of on-line resources are available.

Successful completion of this qualification will enable a student to progress to the next level of learning, Level 5 Management and Leadership.
